At the end of the summer in 1995 I got a phone call from the convention organisers asking me if I was going to be attending Who's7 '96. Apparently they'd had enquiries about 'the transvestite Servalan' and they wanted to know if I was going to go.
I immediately said yes and then rang Peter & Mark to tell them and to ask them if they were going to come along as well. They both agreed it would be a good idea to go again. Unfortunately at the last minute Peter couldn't make it so only Mark and I went.
I sorted out a new dress and rang Leonie to see if she was going, otherwise what the hell was I going to do about my make-up? But everything was fine and Leonie said she was indeed going.
I had entered the fancy dress and had also been asked to take part in 'The Rulers of The Universe.' The idea was you gave a speech and then got people to vote for you over the weekend. The final winner would be announced as Ruler at the closing ceremony.
Unfortunately I lost to a Red Dalek, but I did win the fancy dress and I also got Paul Darrow's vote for 'Rulers' by proxy, as he had to leave early.
It was during this convention that I first met Gary Stratman; he was The Master in 'Rulers'. He had the look and the voice so spot on it was scary. I just love the photo of Gary & I having a conversation, both leaning against the Red Dalek. I think Gary and Linda (his wife) are two of the most interesting people I have ever met.
